The Death Penalty in 2016

Favor for the death penalty wanes as executions are at a 20 year low. Problems with access to the lethal injection drugs, ethical and moral questions, and the fact that mistakes are made are creating problems for proponents of the death penalty nationwide.

With a presidential election coming up, now is the perfect time to make our voices heard in regards to capital punishment. Presidential candidates, like Bernie Sanders, and important public figures like Pope Francis have come out against the death penalty, citing that capital punishment just does not work as a detterent. Furthermore, it’s morally reprehensive. With 56% of the public support for the death penalty, there is still a lot of work to do.
